so brief summary
I've been told by that user that makes the black friday topics (I feel really bad I don't remember his name right now) that any hard drive can work on a gaming system as long as you can plug it into a system with a USB. I used to think Wii Us needed specific hard drives but yea, apparently not always the case. When he would make the topic and ask what you would want him to keep an eye out for, I would say "Wii U hard drive" and eventually he just clarified it for me also he informed me that if you didn't want it to run on it's own power supply, you'd have to get a Y cable. so yea, a few months ago I got a hard drive from a friend who said he was using it for his Xbox one but he got a bigger one, so he didn't need this one any more he said the thing runs on it's own power but the cable got lost so yea, I remembered the Y cable thing I was told to just "search it on amazon, any will do" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1OIA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 my computer was on the fritz the other day so I ordered another hard drive, and while I was at it, I finally got around to ordering this cable to set up my first hard drive (I guess I forgot about it) so yea, came in today the thing isn't working. The xbox one isn't picking up the on the hard drive at all if I google the situation, everything I see says it should've just picked up on the hard drive automatically and started formatting it immediately but that didn't happen so ...what can I do here? How can I test what the problem is? If its the hard drive itself, the cable if it doesn't work or its the wrong one all together, or maybe even the xbox one? anybody have any experience with this? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Is there only one spot to plug something into the hd? If there are more I would plug it into the wall and not power it from the xbox.

I mean i guess that's it's purpose so I'm not 100% sure but I've never had luck powering a device from the same device I'm trying to transfer something to.
