Current Events > Why do people take so long to mature today compared to the past?

My grandparents were married, had their own property and jobs by the time they were 15. This was back in the 1940s. They had a 4th grade education and that was enough.

Today we see people living with their parents until their 30s and don't have their own property or anything. What gives?

I think it was a rougher world out of the gate back in the day. Like how young Spartan boys were soldiers when they were pre teens. You had to grow up faster

We have a more in depth education system now that allows for what I consider to be a more stable maturity, that's taken time to foster

I have a crazy tinfoil theory that it might be due to smartphones and a lack of self-reflection >_> Like in the past if you had to wait somewhere, you would probably spend that time thinking to yourself and may go into some self-reflection on stuff you've done and how you can improve and whatnot. And that would help you to mature.

But now, whenever we gotta wait somewhere, we all immediately pull out our smartphones and occupy ourselves with that. So basically we barely have any time to sit still and think about stuff and mature slower cuz of that.

But hey, that's just a theory. A Neon theory! >_>
