This week it was actually good. Right now it's a combination of lo-fi electronica / lo-fi indie rock, new retro wave, synthwave and relaxing chiptune.

I hope it stays good, the New Music Mix has always been solid but the Chill Mix is always way off or entirely random. I think part of why I stick with the service is because the algorithm for the New Music Mix is solid. Human curation is top notch for playlists as well.

Sometimes it seems like the Chill Mix is switching between radically different algorithms, though i doubt it is. There have been a few weeks where I would get a bunch of super downtempo emo from the early 00s to the late 00s, others where it would just deliver a ton of folk indie garbage (Bon Iver and his army of clones) and other weeks where it would deliver up super minimalist music that I would have trouble describing as actual music.

My listening habits in regards to genres do not vary that much from week to week according to Last.fm so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Anyways I'm curious to hear from Apple Music subscribers, how is your Chill Mix?

It's been pretty decent. Been seeing a lot of Sizzlebird and Tycho, and a couple downtempo Undertale remixes (surprisingly).

Better than my Favorites mix lately, which latched on to the ambient I played for a few nights on my HomePod and won't let go of it despite all the other stuff I listen to.

Sometimes I listen to specific tracks that help me sleep on my iPhone (on repeat). I found out quickly that if I left listening history on for that device it would basically make all of my mixes serve up really droning/sleeping type music, lol.

I've heard some people recommend just turning off listening history all together so it just goes entirely off of library content, but I don't really think that would be beneficial. I did turn it off on the phone though.

I honestly don't use the mixes very much. Just glancing at it though, it looks alright. It's definitely nailed the genres that I listen to most. Even if I don't care for some of the suggestions, I understand why the algorithm would think otherwise.

Generally Id say giving it feedback on tracks (love/dislike) has improved it slowly.
