Yes, on the surface bourbon mixed with vodka in the same glencairn glass sounds nasty, but let me explain.

So I bought a pint of Elijah Craig bourbon because I heard it was good. Upon tasting it I wasnt impressed, and I was thinking maybe regular Elijah Craig isn't so good but the pricier ones are. It has a bit of oaky vanilla but a little harsh on the back end, not a smooth as other bourbons ive tried.

So now enter the vodka. The vodka i have is boyd and blair vodka, a local vodka using only potatoes(and only the best part of the potato) and it has actual flavor. no alcohol bite common in most vodkas, and it tastes like vanilla and butterscotch(no flavorings added just potato). It truly is a sipping vodka, and actually tastes pretty good on its own.

So upon mixing, what happened? the vodka took out the harsh burn of the bourbon, the vanilla flavors from both compounded eachother making it nicely sweet and vanilla, and overall it was a resounding success and one of the best "mixed" drinks ive tried. just straight bouron and straight vodka.

This is something that will sound gross until you try it. I didnt expect it to work so well.
