Another topic has prompted me to think about this.

How many of you actually have a budget, and understand your ins and outs of your money?

What tools do you use? I know Mint and YNAB are popular tools, I prefer a simple google sheet though, it offers me flexibility that the other tools don't which greatly frustrates me.

This is what I use, just google sheets default template, I've made a few customizations to it to tailor it to my needs.

only when i make a major decision or change, like buying a new car, moving to a new place, getting a new job, etc. that way i can see how much i can afford for a new purchase or see how my situation changes.

otherwise i dont really pay any mind to my expenses/income, and every few months we try and put a couple thousand bucks in savings.
