He's the kind of guy who doesn't outwardly seem to make a big deal about things. He's got a dry sense of humor and a deadpan speaking method.. Really cool guy.

He and another guy in IT just clash every time they have to deal with each other. They're both very passive aggressive toward each other. Every now and then they'd get in these arguments that neither side seems to be able to let go, so it escalates a bit and they just keep going.

Yesterday, they were arguing with each other again. I didn't think anything of it, and they eventually went their separate ways. Apparently, he had taken it to the point of "screw it, let's take this outside and settle this" point, but I wasn't there for that part.

Every week we have an IT meeting where a different person in IT leads the meeting and pretty much talks about whatever they want to talk about.

It was his turn to lead the meeting yesterday. He brought a cake for the IT meeting and was keeping it secret. He went to the reception desk and asked for a knife to cut the cake.

One of the IT managers saw the knife and on his desk, unaware that it was actually so they could cut the cake during the IT meeting. The manager resorted him to HR and he got fired.

He probably should have just got a plastic knife from the cafe but man... That sucks

Well, that's a bummer. You could say the guy should have had common sense, but when you don't see yourself as a dangerous person, you don't typically think about those type of things as much, especially when you are trying to do a nice thing for everyone.

Hope it gets sorted out for him.

This is the kind of stupid s*** that makes people come back with a knife for an entirely different reason.

I'd probably talk to a lawyer about a lawsuit tbh. Not sure if he has a case but it's worth getting an opinion though.

Yeah, I don't really know the legality of firing someone like this. Now you have a bunch of workers who are scared their manager will fire them because the manager doesn't have enough common sense to figure out why someone may have a knife.

It's not like he brought the knife to work, this was something the office must have had if the receptionist was able to give it to him.

If we freaked out over every knife we saw, then we couldn't get anything done.

So fucking true. But honestly, he should come back with a legal knife instead (as in lawyers)
