Thoughts?

Hey everyone I was hoping for a bit of advice. I live in Scotland and honestly didn't think I'd have to worry about stuff like this until recently. On Friday my partner and I are going to a Pokemon TCG event. We've just found out the person organising it is a Trump supporter we've been avoiding since we found out the news. My partner is trans, and we can't be in the company of someone like that, because eventhough he doesn't know it he hates my partner. Do we message the venue and tell them about him? Or will this make things more difficult since we've pre registered? It's getting harder and harder to play the Pokemon TCG where we live because we're finding out a bunch of people are fascists.

Of course, my partner has to be so careful around anyone because she's trans, being a Trump supporter is a declaration of hate

I mean, if the person is legitimately anti trans, then.. sure, boycott by all means.

But if they are simply assuming because of his political affiliation, that is just a bit stupid.

I've regularly been cutting Trump supporters out of my life, because there ain't no such thing as unconditional love, and I don't need the headache.

I don't tell them I'm ghosting, though. That just seems like it'd invite drama.

Check out other TCG scenes. Or attend events where you know they won't be there.

Also, I'm a Trump supporter and don't have biases against that group. Your comments don't have any merit.

I think that couple in the OP is being a bit melodramatic. If they don't want to go because the organizer is a Trump supporter and possibly (by proxy) anti-trans, then just don't go. No need to make a spectacle out of not going.
Legit blame the internet. It seems people are getting more and more incapable of just making a decision to do or not do something and move on without plastering it all over social media.

Because making a spectacle is self-serving attention-seeking. What is messaging the venue owner going to do but cause fruitless drama?

Youre looking at it through a pretty cynical lens. Its the same as being conscious of where you spend your money: if companies know youre not buying their product because they hardbor beliefs, practices, or relationships you find problematic, then theyre forced to face it and address it, either by changing their practice or doing nothing. The same principle applies here: contact a venue to inform them that youre dissatisfied with their choice to associate with a host. If just two people do it, probably nothing happens, but if multiple people do it, it can make a difference, or at least force the owners to take a position.

Its advocacy at its most grassroots level. I take no issue.

I wonder if Trump supporter is synonymous with Trump voter? If not, then what makes a person a Trump supporter? Wearing a MAGA hat?

I also wonder if the couple has had personal dealing with said individual, and if he expressed disdain for trans people? Or, if all this is just something that the couple assumes about him.

But what is people's input going to accomplish? It's not like they adding messages to the FB for Pokemon opinions or things related to the event itself. The intent seems to be to stir the pot because they don't like Trump and want affirmation about their assumptions and generalizations of the event organizer because he voted for Trump. It could be easily left alone, for the sake of the enjoyment of all the other participants of the event who aren't making it a political cluster.
