99% of the time people who say that crap wear items from other cultures than their, so not only are they racist, but extremely hypocritical. Segragating culture is supposed to be a radical conservative position, not a leftist one.

It's more about trivializing another culture for your own amusement. If it's done out of respect then people don't tend to call it cultural appropriation.

Take Eminem. Liberals and black people seem to have zero problem with him rapping because it became his lifestyle and he feels deeply passionate about it. He treats the culture with respect and he embodies both the good and bad about it so people don't say he's culturally appropriating it.

It's about respect.

If you took a stereotype and say took like a dress from a certain culture and sexualized the hell out of it then that's cultural appropriation. People have done that with like middle eastern fashion where they had a womans cleavage hanging out while wearing full niqab everywhere else.

I think context and use is pretty important. Like, as a Chinese person from Hong Kong, I see absolutely no issue with the use of that Chinese prom dress. I would take issue if she wore it and took pictures pretending to eat a dog or slanting her eyes for pictures.

Basically, just don't be a racist asshole mocking other cultures.

Fair enough.

But let's be honest, Eminem got shitload of criticism for "acting black".
