Because they have different properties in different states. The same reason someone throwing magma is different than rocks.

Because there's a difference between being wet and being cold. Ice pushes the specific idea of coldness, rather than ice being a different form of water.

In divinity original sin 2, there are water-elemental attacks that either cause wet or chill

chilled after being wet causes freeze

Elements are understandable, but piercing slash physical? One pierces forward other horizontally. Both cuts, its the same fucking thing. Both are physical.

a pierce implies something straight forward, like a stab. a deep wound that doesn't actually cover up much surface area on the target

a slash is moreso the opposite, where the wound itself isn't very deep, but it covers a large section of the target

if that makes sense

for pierce, think arrows or spears, that go straight into the target
for slash, think broadsword in a big arcing slash
