like on this classic cover. it would show Cap busting into the Oval Office and punching Trump while secret service looks on.

This is why I don't care for Captain America as a comic character. He's just a dumping ground for people's politics. One writer has him become the Nomad because Nixon gets elected. Another has him declare that America was weak and little removed from Nazi Germany. Another has him blindly follow whatever big government tells him to do so that he can be the punchline for anyone wanting to knock US policy.

Keep him center left, never have him lose his love for his country, and make him a positive representation of the things that are right with America. Don't just treat him like a used condom which gets passed around for others to inject their political views into.

If I were in charge of Marvel, he'd probably be the most protected character in terms of what writers are allowed to do with him.

it sounds like maybe you would like the character Uncle Sam, from DC. he is from a world where the nazis won WW2 and he leads a small team of the last super heroes in the world. and they fight back. his powers are that he is directly tied to America's belief in it's ideals. Basically he gains strength when people are patriotic and believing in the ideals that this country was founded on. And when people lose that faith and are anti patriotic or start going against the founding beliefs, he loses strength.

Sounds like what Captain America should be.

Better comparison would be if the Red Skull punched Trump.

Either way, I wouldn't care.

Red Skull would have trump's support so he'd have zero reason to punch him.

His name is Captain America. What other fate could he have had.

I keep forgetting what that word means to other people. For me, it means the American public, Americana, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, etc. For others, it means the big evil government and a nation which has always hated people with a complexion darker than milky white. So Captain Government or Captain America Was Never Great really can't be anything but an outhouse for those types of writers.

That's why I say he'd be my most protected character if I ran Marvel. He wouldn't have to be a jingoistic G.I. Joe figure, but I'd have a written code of conduct for how he could or couldn't be depicted. If you want to say America sucks, you don't get to say it with this character because we have an invested interest in him.
