it seems like a hard language to learn if you don't learn it naturally. I have an adopted relative from another country who had to learn it at a young age, and they still years later make mistakes. like once they called 2 people walking by "2 couples" when 2 couples actually would mean 4 people. I don't think I could learn english if i was a foreigner.

Plenty of people from non-English speaking countries start at a young age and speak fluently or nearly so, as well as an additional language.

Meanwhile our language education system in the US is complete shit and most people don't speak more than one language.

I leaned both Spanish and English as a baby. Learned French in High School but overall I struggled more with Spanish.
