about it.

It's a survival game

A lot of games do overdo the whole survival/crafting thing these days, but a lot of games try to blend it with some other sort of other genre, this particular game is all about either survival and exploration.

Also it's from a top-down perspective, which I actually kind of like.

The idea is you were in a shipwreck or some other sort of accident and you washed up on the shore of an island.

Which is a cool idea. I've been drawn to the idea of like a desert island game for years. When I was younger there was I think a game on the DS that was like that sort of thing (landing on an island, surviving, exploring and finding weird/mysterious shit) I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and being kinda enthralled with the idea. However it was a Japan-only game.

Anyway

The game is crap and feels like a fucking slog. The character moves slowly, gathering resources is a chore, enemies are way overpowered and there's way too many of them, which closes off the map (it's been 4 hours playing and I'm still in the starting area and using stone tools).

There's also a lot of crafting recipes that are actually locked off to you regardless of whether you have the required materials or not.

The idea is you gotta complete quests (which basically amount to "get x of this thing", or "build this") and level up (which always requires gathering/crafting a certain amount of specific materials) to be able to unlock more crafting recipes, which feels kinda... Iunno. I feel like it's making the game more of a slog than it needs to be.

Anyway tl;dr: I've wanted a desert island survival game for a while, I purchased one that I found, and it turned out not great, and I can't stop thinking on how to make it better.
