The lack of net neutrality hasn't had any effect so far. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 100% baseless fearmongering

Did this happen in the twenty years of mainstream Internet BEFORE we had "net neutrality?"

None of the sites is paying for a fast lane. Each is accelerated by a content delivery network (CDN) provided by a neutral party, but their performance is radically different. The factors that account for the speed discrepancies are page design, the number and nature of the ads embedded in the pages, and the number and power of the servers that host the pages on their various CDNs.

Stop loading thirty third party scripts and popping a video in the corner, and your loadtimes suddenly improve drastically.

None that were legally enforceable.

You know, that whole 'struck down by the Supreme Court' thing.

Here's a dumb idea, that's only possible without neutrality: Adblock ISP.

In 2005, the nations largest ISP, Comcast, began secretly blocking peer-to-peer technologies that its customers were using over its network. Users of services like BitTorrent and Gnutella were unable to connect to these services. 2007 investigations from the Associated Press, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and others confirmed that Comcast was indeed blocking or slowing file-sharing applications without disclosing this fact to its customers.

My 7 seasons of Buffy that I torrented freshman year says otherwise.

There were definitely cases against ISPs. Plus we're ignoring the fact that the online streaming and the like didn't become extremely prevalent until the teens anyway.

There were cases - but no legal enforcement outside of the FTC.

Because, again, any and all net neutrality rules put in place by the FCC were found to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Most of those aren't ISP's, but cellular networks. A few of those aren't even in America.

In America, mobile networks were specifically excluded from neutrality regulations.

So... your phone's internet hasn't changed, nor did it get as obnoxious as that one Polish provider in the meantime.

That's right. It didn't. Even though we don't have net neutrality, and really only ever had the power to enforce it for two years.

The lack of mobile neutrality is why TMo was able to do the "unlimited netflix" promotion.

And when ISPs self-destruct like cable did, a new technology will replace it.
