I had a salary increase about 4 years ago, since then my responsibilities have gone up quite a bit. They gave a small increase this year, equivalent to an extra $20 per paycheck.

Now my coworker (who was making $10,000 more than me despite doing less work) quit and I had to take on all of her responsibilities. Pretty much, I am doing 5 jobs in 1 right now and when I looked at the payroll for this week, I didn't get an increase at all. I make as little as the guy who looks after the owner's house.

Would you stay at such a job under those circumstances?

Fuck no. Not for long at least.

Are they actively looking for a replacement?

I'd tell them I need a little something extra in the envelope or I'm walking. You expected them to just give you a raise without asking? Is that normal there?

That literally should have been the first question.

"Are you looking for a replacement?"

i would determine my prevailing market wage, ask for a sit down closed door meeting, lay down my cards, explain what I am doing, show data for equivalent jobs, and then ask for a raise that would put me at market.

if they say no, i start looking and leave as soon as I get a decent offer. if they say yes, i stay.

Nope. The owner's wife said that they weren't replacing her, they were just going to divide her responsibilities among my boss and I, although like 90% of those tasks went to me.

Damn. This is a very good idea.

Kind of where I am right now. Thankfully they are giving me as much overtime as I need and helping where they can. They are also bringing in two more temps to help.

Most art galleries (as far as I know) don't have a single person handling all the responsibilities that I currrently am (including random tasks like taking the owner to the doctor), but I would probably say that my salary should be around $75,000+ for this based upon what my prior coworkers who did these tasks were earning and the drop-off in business.
