You've got people with PhDs in engineering working at call centers, people with medical degrees driving taxi cabs. What the fuck is the world coming to?

People are working longer, retiring later, automation continues it's ever forward march, young people can't get the foot in the door, pensions are quickly becoming a thing of the past, and now we have more than qualified immigrants landed in North America that are demanding the same jobs as everybody else.

Something has to give.

This is actually real in some instances. I do design engineering work. Mainly, Im there because I have PhD in my e-mail signature which is a big thing in my industry. Some of my former classmates were long term unemployed and had to leave the country. We have achieved saturation.

I agree. I took a MSc in Machine Learning and I am working as a senior developer. Still making great money but this is not exactly what I studied for.

Why would they want your furry ass that doesn't speak their language, when they could hire someone homegrown for much cheaper?

And the trades are HURTING for guys. My last company gave a $500 headhunting fee if you recruited somebody and they stayed on board for at least 90 days.

I just got out of the pipefitters union, there's not shit around here anymore if you don't want to travel, and I don't. I took a small pay cut to work in facilities management at my local hospital but I'm much happier. Like yeah ill probably break 6 figures again but I'd rather see my kid grow up

Pretty sure you need a diploma or GED to become certified in a trade. At least it is here in Canada and always thought it was the same in the US.
