As a GAME it's one of the best ones because it has a real combat engine. As a Silent Hill it really misses the mark on what the series is about. You'll probably have fun playing it, but you'll quickly realize it's just not a SH in spirit.

It's okay.

It didn't quite "get" what Silent Hill was, it made it more combat focused and it's main plot is pretty bad.

But it's endearing and kinda fun. It's sort of like you know when a book or an indie movie or a Japanese Classic movie gets a Hollywood remake?

It's sort of the Silent Hill version of that. Hunger Games to Battle Royal, or that Grudge movie with Buffy in it or Ghost In the Shell or DragonBall evolution or Scott Pilgrim. Or that 1997 Godzilla

Not "bad" per se but combat rolling around with a large vareity of guns in a locked arena where you can't run away as you and your spunky love interest and token black friend who says "Aww hell naw" and you shotgun monsters feel more RE than SH if you get my point.

I've beat every game in both those series multiple times.

Silent hill 2 is probably one of the best games of all time. Silent hill 3 imo is a top 5 game of all time

That being said RE2, REmake, and 7 are amazing

They screwed up the fog effect in the port. It's tough to explain without pictures and I don't want to spoil anything, but honestly if you've never played the originals it'll do just fine because all the REALLY important stuff is unchanged. It was really only an issue with long-time fans.

They screwed up the fog effect in the port. It's tough to explain without pictures and I don't want to spoil anything, but honestly if you've never played the originals it'll do just fine because all the REALLY important stuff is unchanged. It was really only an issue with long-time fans.

Don't worry about spoilers, I already know the big twist (James killed his wife, and Pyramid Head is the embodiment of his guilt). But yeah, I've never played a Silent Hill game, so I got the HD collection since I wanted to get into horror and I thought 2 was the best place to start.

When you say they screwed up the fog, is it how the fog seems kind of like a wall that moves with you? If so, I did notice that myself.

Nope.

For some reason they couldn't get the original source code, so what you're actually playing isn't the finished the game, it's a late beta.

So it's got less fog, less decor, is full of bugs and glitches.

It's basically a downgrade. Which is ironic for the "HD version"

Honestly, if you've never played the game than just play it and don't worry about it. Me showing you comparative screen shots will just taint the experience. Only long-time fans noticed the graphics problem, but once you see it you can't un-see it.

The fog is not only atmospheric but it's also a knowing attempt to hide the background and crummy details. Removing the fog makes the game more goofy and worse looking.

Like things in the background that just vanish




They also "fixed" a thing that wasn't actually a mistake
