Try to play darkest dungeon on PC. You don't even need much of a PC to make it go. I absolutely love that game but the interface on the ps4/vita is pretty rough.
But maybe if you don't play it on PC first, it isn't so bad.

They're very different games. Doesn't really matter the order as long as you play both. But maybe go shovel knight. There will be points in darkest dungeon where you'll want to give up. It would be bad if you had another awesome game to immediately give it up for.

How much punishment do you want? Shovel Knight is dexterity difficult, Darkest Dungeon is choices and resource management difficult. Darkest Dungeon has a really interesting effect on your morality as a player of the game, since its difficulty scales depending on how much you treat your characters as people in your mind.
