S8 was way, waaaaay worse than S9, even without the finale. Also, as far as Jim & Pam go, I'll agree that the tension between them got really annoying & felt forced, but I don't think they were ever fully unlikeable, and the finale more than redeemed them imho.

I didn't mind them reverting Andy back into being a douchebag as much as the awful Pam/Jim potential infidelity story line. When Andy came in to begin with he was more of an asshole version than the walking song parody guy he became, so it was somewhat refreshing to me anyway to see him like that now that he took over the top spot.

The guy who played Ryan was basically the lead, and I think he had moved on to something else at that point so maybe that's part of it. Whoever let Creed perform "All the Faces" in the finale, though, should be given an award for saving the ending. Season 8 was much worse than 9. I think 9 was a slight rebound, but either way it was time for the show to go at that point.
