Pretty good! Easily my favorite since 4, will need to finish it before I give more thoughts.

Alternate title - Assassin's Creed: Dad Edition

A nice change and fun. Souls-esque, from what I understand. I've found heavy weapons really fun to use for the first time ever in an AC game.

Good to hear, its probably not the biggest selling point for me in the series (the world building and presentation of the series always intrigues me the most.) but hearing the fact that using something other than a sword is fun in AC is good news

I haven't played much of it yet. It's a very beautiful game though, the scenery is great and I love that there's plenty of water to dive under and explore as well. I like being underwater.

Black Flag was the only AC game I liked, so it's nice to see they actually put in some effort for Origins as well.

Is the game anything like AC2? Cause I didn't like AC3 very much, and never played AC4 or Syndicate or the other ones I can't remember atm.

I opted to go with Shadow of War first and will get Origins at a later date.

I just can't get into the changes, honestly. I'm sure it's fine and maybe for the best for the long term health of the series but it just seems like adding all these RPG numbers defeats the purpose of what made AC.

Like I'm hearing you HAVE to do side quests in order to level up and do the main storyline missions, which is something I can't agree with for the series.

Not...really? I also didn't like 3, for the record. But it has an enjoyable protagonist so it's similar to AC2 in that way.

So how often have you just mainlined the story and not done any side stuff?

It's not like you need to do all of the side stuff, it's just you need to do stuff on the way to your main mission.

In AC2? First time through I barely did any side stuff because I found the main story so intriguing.

Of course by ACR I was faffing about hard. But like when I read that you can't stealth kill certain enemies if your too far below their level and you don't do a set amount of damage, I feel like it's not an AC game anymore.

Man, don't skip AC3. It's still a damn good game and I appreciate it a lot more looking back on it.

Then again, I'm a crazy person who REALLY liked Syndicate. Like my favorite AC since Revelations.

That's Unity's fault though. Everyone I've heard talk about Syndicate likes it quite a bit.

Syndicate wasn't terrible at least. I never finished it because it frustrated me too much at some point and I just never continued playing it. I did have fun up til that point though.

I don't understand the "not feeling like AC" thing just because the gameplay is changed. Metal Gear Solid had vastly different mechanics for each game but they were still all MGS.

I've had multiple moments where I said "this is still an Assassin's Creed game for sure" when I was sneaking around and just assassinating an entire camp without them seeing me.

Probably because AC had pretty similar mechanics throughout its entire history and has only appeared on two console generations whereas MGS is now spanning 4.

I'm pretty sure if the first MGS came out on PS3, it'd be a lot different than the PSX version gameplay-wise.

Just saying it's not bad for a game to progress, the AC formula was in desperate need of a change

I heard this one is the first AC that is a breath of fresh air to those who have had AC fatigue since AC4. Is that really true? I reallyyyy want to play another AC game but I just physically do not have the energy for it.

Also AC3 was and still is one of the best ACs and the haters don't know what they're talking about. It has by far the fewest and most streamlined/enjoyable mainline missions, only matched by AC2. Plus it has amazing, storyful side content that isn't very grindy, and really good minigames (remember it invented boat combat). It's the polar opposite of the AC fatigue feeling that AC4 epitomized.

I had so much fatigue after AC3, the moment I hopped into AC4 I knew that was the end. I barely made it a quarter through the game before I quit. It's just one mindless task after the next, generic characterization, "stare at the map" gameplay, blahhhhh. Pretty graphics though.

And then you get Unity, Rogue, Syndicate, and now Origins. Christ.

At least Origins changes it up a little. I'm curious if it's for real or just marketing. Cause I don't think I can stand another by the books AC.

I didn't care for boat combat in 3 but loved it in 4.

I'mma just blame it on my bias though, because I'm a huge fan of pirates and sailing the seas was endless fun for me.
