https://www.forbes.com/sites/robcain/2017/11/20/warner-bros-faces-a-possible-50m-to-100m-loss-on-justice-league/#2cee91e5d8be

I'll start by making a best guess at Justice League's ultimate revenues, costs and profits, beginning with the widely reported figure of $300 million in production costs and an estimated $150 million for global marketing. Then I'll compare the Justice League ROI to the results for other, comparable movies. This should be an empirically valid approach for assessing whether the film was a good investment for the studio, as defined by the first question above.

---
With that disclaimer out of the way, let's start with revenues. The current box office trajectory suggests a final domestic theatrical gross of around $235 million (thats assuming a 2.45x multiplier on the $96 million first weekend gross, 2.45 being the median multiplier for DCs prior 4 DCEU releases). Overseas Im projecting a final international tally of around $400 million (assuming fairly generously that JL gets the same hefty 2.15x multiple on its $185 million opening weekend overseas that Batman v Superman (BvS) got on its first overseas weekend.

---

Total estimated costs: $600 million. Deduct that from the $545 million in studio revenue and we wind up with a $55 million loss. Against Warners' $475 million in upfront production and marketing expenditures, that works out to a negative 12% ROI.

That 12% loss may look pretty bad, but it gets even worse. We need to remember that it takes years for all this money to flow into the studio's coffers. The $300 million in production funding is spent long before the movie's release, and the marketing money is also a big upfront cost. The theatrical rental revenue usually comes back inside of a year after the film's release, but home entertainment revenue can take several years to trickle in, and TV revenue years more.

Adding the domestic and overseas numbers gets us a $635 million worldwide theatrical gross. If that number holds up it would mean that Justice League is the lowest-grossing movie among the five DCEU releases so far.

Wow. If this happens what a disaster. What happened to people claiming that regular movie-goers liked BvS.

Good luck with that.
Just be another reboot, another 2 hour origin story, another joyless piece of shit. Unlike their cartoons, which a fun, self referential, comedic, and coherent. And pander to the fans.

Let me put it like this, in (and this ain't even DCEU) The Dark Knight Rises, not once did they reference 60's Batman with getting rid of a bomb, even though there was a bomb, they needed to get rid of, and literally flew it out into the ocean. For fuck sake, I guarantee one of the writers brought it up and was told to shut up.
Absolutely fuck anyone that made that decision. Or would make it.

Yeah. I blame WB executives on that. They wanted their own "Avengers" level money and tried to rush their universe, skipping solo films and just get straight to the team ups. Unfortunately, they forgot to make good movies first and messed with the final cuts too much.

Not what I said whatsoever. These people are trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. If enough people say DC is a failure, it becomes a failure. That's what propaganda is.

Edward Bernays was the grandfather of modern propaganda. He used clever advertising and mind-control techniques to completely change our culture. It's because of him that bacon became considered a breakfast food; he was hired on by the bacon plants and he shaped public opinion to be that bacon goes with breakfast. He's the reason that wealthy people have pianos in their home. Before Bernays, only actual pianists would get pianos, but he made it into a status symbol.

That's what propaganda is, and that's what these people are doing. Tell everyone they're bad movies, tell everyone it will flop, and eventually (because people are so weak-minded), they'll start to believe it.

It's also known now that soy in your diet causes you to lose all your testosterone and be only a shell of a person, making it more easy to influence your mind. That's a big part of the epidemic facing young men today. The bottom line is that these are good movies, very enjoyable, and yet everyone suddenly becomes a serious critic with them and judges them differently than any other thing they watch. They do not need to scrap it and start over. They just need to do a better job going forward.

The issues are thus:

1. No clear direction except "play catch up to Marvel" this means movies are feeling rushed to push out characters with no structure whatsoever. Just "make the movie now"

2. Stop executive meddling. Stop cutting shit because of "mandates." Stop forcing directors to do stupid shit they don't agree with. Listen more to actors about how they feel their character should be portrayed.

3. Give the universe going forward consistent leadership. It's not like Harry Potter where the whole story was written out ahead of time. You need to limit the people who have their hands in the pot so that when one movie has to talk to another they don't feel disjointed. As it stands BvS and SS do not feel like they belong in the same universe at all with MoS, WW, and ustice League. They've got completely different tones and themes.

And make sure that person is a fan of the mainstream familiar interpretations of the characters. While TDKR is a fine comic in its own right, that is not what people expect going to see Batman or Superman and to advertise Batman/Superman but instead give them TDKR is effectively a bait and switch.

[Superman] is the freaking [] biggest superhero on the planet. Hes the father of every superhero. [Deborah and I] were just talking about this Im like, really? Thor? Thor has a movie? [Laughter.] Really? I mean, come on. And theres no Superman movie? This is, like, the worlds out of balance. Its like, weve lost our minds here, people, come on.

If Ben Affleck ends up calling it quits I don't think it's gonna be a surprise if they sorta scrap the DCEU. Maybe not outright state it but just use what works and scrap what doesn't. Like Fox with X-Men.

I think hoping for a cohesive universe like Marvel has managed for the past decade isn't gonna happen.

God dam, there truly is no hope for this guy. He wrote out all that shit to try to convince himself that a $400 - $450 million dollar production (after advertising) will somehow be profitable off of a $600 - $700 million box office gross. News flash, not only is not not successful like you said 500 times in the last topic, it will probably not even make its costs back, and no amount of denial can change that.

No problem lol. @KazumaKiryu any thoughts on being caught lying?

I stand by everything I said. Did not lie about anything, and it's very convenient that you shills are ignoring the quick lesson I gave you on propaganda.

@KazumaKiryu I bet you're starting to feel pretty fucking stupid right about now. But go ahead, tell us more how Justice League is actually a monumental success.

Funny, I never said that it would be. It's a great movie.

You're saying that it's a bunch of online randoms' fault that DC made a mediocre movie?

Tell me where I said it would be a monumental success, please.

I said that on Thursday previews, it did better than Wonder Woman. I said wait and see before you talk shit. None of that is wrong.

Not really lying, just being hopelessly optimistic with an extremely poor sample size of Thursday tickets + 1/2 of Friday tickets.

Can't say I really mind. Maybe film studios can finally get over this superhero fad and start making large budget movies for adults again.

I'm just thinking what future plans are even set in stone at this point.

There's Aquaman over a year away. Then what? Shazam and Wonder Woman 2 in 2019. So they'll probably stick to their original plan. I don't think Cyborg is gonna happen.

That's it for the next two years. The Batman still isn't due until freaking 2020 (so far) and that's supposed to be a trilogy? What incentive do they even have to keep Affleck and be tied to the DCEU at this point? Wtf is going on with this movie? It's their biggest property and it seems to be struggling to get off the ground.

I think for the most part it's done. DC movies will keep coming but I'm sure they'll want to stay away from this mess.

Kind Regards,
