There are good bands and artist who aren't on the top 40s. And some of the songs that were in the top 40s this decade were good like Chandelier by Sia for example

All I'm absolutely sure on is that the 1980's had the best pop music.

EDIT: And when I think on it, the 80's had an incredibly diverse range of musical styles and genres that defined the decade. Punk was still going strong, probably the strongest it had ever been. Hip hop was gaining traction, and it was one of the best times for that music. Metal was at its absolute peak during this decade. Not to mention Alternative rock was finding its pioneers both at the beginning and the end of the decade with Pylon and The Pixies, respectively.

The 1980's were a legitimately fantastic decade for music.

90s pop music trumps other era's pop music, but that's probably the nostalgia talking.

Saying the 10's. With the advent of youtube/pandora/soundcloud/spotify/etc gaining access to some obscure yet awesome bands that would've never survived the recording studio/label gauntlet of the previous eras is better than ever, and as software becomes more and more advanced it's easier to mix/produce high quality jams.

Holy shit, this fucking guy.

This has been hands down the worst decade of pop music.

I agree.

90's pop > other era's pop
10's total music catalog > other era's total music catalog

Music from older eras (like the 70s) has been filtered by time. There was a lot of garbage back then just like there is a lot of garbage now. But garbage doesn't get radio play 30+ years after it's been released* so it's not fair to say a manicured 70's list is better than a raw 10's list.

*mostly. Fuck you, Journey.
