It's on sale and I've never heard anything bad about and I do like anime but I've never played a Persona game and I prioritize gameplay way way over story so now to end this run-on sentence should I buy it

it's a 90 hour anime where most of the gameplay loop is about building relationships with the people around you so you're better equipped for dungeons

if you want a systems heavy rpg maybe check out etrian odyssey 5, assuming you have a 3ds

Hmm. Well here's a better question then, about the replay value. Is it still really fun to just play straight through the game and just skipping cutscenes provided you already know the story?

Cuz I shouldn't say I dislike stories, I still do love them, but only if the gameplay engages me first.

The gameplay is super good, which includes story-based gameplay. But the game doesn't rely on its story very much at all, which is most people's biggest criticism. It's way more slice of life than most RPGs.

The gameplay is fantastic, so if you're worried about there being some sort of imbalance where you need to love the story in order to enjoy the game then that's not the case, there's still lots to like about the gameplay (including the battles, powering up your character, and the sim-style day-to-day life).

That said the story is a huge part of the game that can't really be ignored. There's a ton of cutscenes and dialogue, so if you're the type of person who has no patience for stuff like that you'll have problems. On the plus side, the story is very unique and engaging, so if you disliked other JRPGs for their hokey plots it does stand out as something much fresher.

I think Persona games are very rewarding to play through multiple times. there's hundreds of personas to raise/fuse, and on higher difficulty or challenge runs it's a lot of fun to live on the edge of wiping only to escape because of your knowledge of character weaknesses (and any super strong Personas you've fused). Admittedly, I haven't replayed this one yet - I haven't even finished it, because it's long - so I can't say how this one stacks up to the other games. I can see how having authored dungeons could limit enjoyment the second time around.

The game includes a new game plus mode, and you can fast forward text/skip cut scenes, so replaying it if you enjoy it should be a breeze.

Excellent, I appreciate the opinions. I'mma go ahead and buy it. Seems like something I could definitely enjoy.

Possibly maybe I might do a playthrough topic once I get around to it but I'm not very sure of my, uh, commentating skills.

I would say absolutely the main reason you play Persona is the story. The gameplay in Persona 5 is good, yeah, but it's not necessarily anything spectacular. I guess you could try it but there's better choices if you don't care for story at all.

I would say Persona gameplay is very unique and interesting from a raw RPG gameplay perspective for sure. I mean the previous games were just randomly generate infinite dungeon crawls and they were still quite fun, and 5 adds so much more awesome stuff in the combat that makes it even deeper. You definitely can't find that stuff in other RPG games.

It's a long game so replaying it is uhh not going to happen very often? At least replaying it right after beating it is probably not something I would do.
