I didn't know the context at all when I started watching but figured something pretty serious and bad must have happened. Looking into it more, it was about students being allowed to wear any halloween costumes they wanted. and that was enough to provoke this kind of reaction. nothing racist actually happened, but she was so scared of the potential possibility of something racist that could happen. But in the case of someone actually doing so, then it's that individual who should be reprimanded. I don't see that as a contradiction either; I'd assume that since it was Yale, students would know better than to wear something with the sole intention of being racism to provoke other students. Just because you have the freedom to wear what you want, doesn't mean that you should exercise that freedom with the intention to offend. I think the Master should have shut her arguments down better instead of letting her carry on screaming at him. He seems like a decent respectable guy though.
