The Ramsay and Sansa wedding. I admit I'm a little late to the Game of Thrones party, but I'd heard this being discussed as some sort of terrible horror. Well, when I finally got to the scene, I can say this is pretty tame compared to other things shown in the series. Remember Khal Drogo and Danerys? That was much worse.

I was more pissed because they completely shit all over the much better plotline for the Boltons/Winterfell in the books. That was the worst storyline in the show, which is saying something because there are a lot of bad storylines lol

A) It wasn't worse. The first Danny/Drogo wasn't pleasant to see, but it wasn't particularly violent either.

B) By season 5 the show had gotten very popular, so it attracts a lot more attention from people ranging from moral busy bodies to people just fanning over Sansa upset more bad shit happened to her.

The issue a lot of people had is that this was in direct contradiction to how Sansa's storyline was going. She spent several seasons as the tortured hostage at the hands of Joffrey. Then she escaped and began using her skills to help Littlefinger manipulate people to give them the power of the Vale.

And then they throw that away for Littlefinger to give her to Ramsay, a tactic which makes no damn sense. Doing so doesn't win him the North because the Boltons aren't going to rebel against the Lannisters, especially not to put Littlefinger on the throne. The Lords of the Vale don't like Littlefinger, they like Sansa. So Littlefinger giving her to a man that's going to rape and torture her isn't going to endear the Vale to Littlefinger either. And most of all, Sansa's not going to appreciate it and she is the biggest asset Littlefinger has.

I understand why they condensed these storylines together, but they handled it badly.

The show just ruined little finger in general really. He was hands down the best character in the show. He was always scheming and he was the reason why the entire show kicked off, then after they stopped having GRRM's lead to go off of, the show writers ruined him.

The show ruined Littlefinger long before they lost GRRM's guidance. His most grievous flaw is that he was reduced from a subtle puppetmaster whom no one suspected into a gravel-voiced idiot who openly threatened and blackmailed some of the most powerful lords in Westeros. The awful 'Power is Power' scene with Cersei in S2 was the beginning of the end for his show-character. Some characters were vastly improved in their transition from book to show (Davos, Bronn, Olenna, to name a few). Littlefinger showed early on that he was not going to be one of those characters.

Littlefinger and Varys are the two best characters in the series, and the show cucked the shit out of both of them

The scene itself was pretty tame and tasteful.

Way worse rapes have happened that were actually on screen. It was just people needing something to be angry about cuz their pretty little Sansa got deflowered.

The alternative was to have Sansa sit out Season 5 with Littlefinger in the Vale, manipulating the price of grain or whatever they're doing in the books. Instead they opted to give us another perspective inside Winterfell, substantial character development for both Sansa and Theon, something for Brienne to do... it served many purposes, actually.

Yeah it was waaaay better to take out the Manderly/Frey conflict, the family meat pies, the Hooded Man, Mance Rayder running around murdering people in Winterfell and also make Roose Bolton a huge bitch instead of the terrifying villain he should be.

The scene not showing the rape actually made some people mad too. Because Sansa was being raped, but the scene became about Theon's reaction to it rather than what was actually happening to her.

But like I said, a lot of people were more annoyed that they ruined her and Littlefinger's character arcs than annoyed at whatever misogyny the scene had.
