Big day for the Rockies who despite seeming to be in a tailspin actually won the series in San Diego while the Cardinals dropped two of three to the Pirates. I won't say the Cards are done only because I've said that a bunch this year only for them to come alive again immediately but the math looks bad after today.

It should also help the Rockies that the Cards and Brewers have one more series against each other left. The Rockies' worst case scenario for that series is a sweep and that would at least automatically eliminate one of their opponents. But I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself since the Rockies might get swept by the Marlins

I just saw the video of Jose Bautista giving his final curtain call in Toronto. A beautiful bittersweet moment. I got a little emotional last year when Matt Holliday came up as a pinch hitter in what looked like his last Cardinal at bat and he hit a homer.

I'm still in shock at how good the Vikings offense/case keenum was today. And yes I'm aware that TB was missing a number of starters, thanks. I thought they had about a 50/50 chance to win, mostly because all of the TB injuries, but it would be an ugly win and the defense would have to carry the team.

Diggs went HAM, but Keenum's deep ball was particularly impressive. He even got a TD off of a free play Aaron Rodgers style. The vikings literally never do that.

An online friend I haven't talked to in months looked at my trophies and noticed I was close to getting platinum on Life Is Strange and now we've been texting back and forth for like 20 minutes about the game. It's crazy how this game starts conversations.

Keenum was backup to a backup here (got plenty of PT still) but it's a classic move to have the guy who starts behind Bradford have a great game and start the conversation "well even if Sam is hurt we still have a good guy behind him!" Not saying you think Keenum is gonna beast beyond yesterday but I know that hopeful feeling well.

Today's poll is actually kind of interesting. I don't think that being a pro gamer would really be that fun. I like games, but I hear those guys practice for like 12 hours a day. Playing the same game day in and day out would get old fast for me.

If I was gonna play games for a living, I'd be a streamer/YouTuber. Those people seem like they have such cushy jobs.

crazy, or strange?

Since I started playing League of Legends a little bit a few months ago, I decided to look up some people on YouTube to see how to play certain champions. These guys post videos of their Twitch streams where they're making $4.20 (seriously, that's what people donate) every couple minutes at least. Then that video on YouTube gets millions of views which generates more revenue for them. I looked up a couple of their salaries and they make 3-4 million a year for playing some games of League of Legends online. It's crazy.

One thing that annoys me about competitive gaming nowadays is how these competitive scenes spring up pretty much instantly after a game comes out, whereas it used to be a much more organic thing that grew out of a game's popularity. I don't really know why that annoys me though, since it's not really a big deal as long as the games are good. I guess I just hope it doesn't become so big that it dilutes the quality of multiplayer games, in the same way that digital stores became a dumping ground for indie shovelware, or YouTube exposure became an excuse to make lazy ragdoll meme games.

I think the competitive scene does hurt multiplayer games a little bit. LoL and Overwatch both have characters that are stronger than others because they're flashier and make for a better viewing experience, and they'll balance some characters based on pro level of play instead of the 99% of the people actually playing the game.

I basically never play multiplayer games anymore (I will dabble in co-op) so I don't think about any of that stuff ever.

I don't play them that much either, but I'd still feel bad for casual players who potentially got hurt by changes made to favor the competitive scene. And there might be a few games I'm still interested in where it could be relevant. Could you imagine buying the new Smash if they removed items entirely and got rid of all the unlockable stuff? I know that's probably too extreme to happen, but just as an example. Though I could see them trimming a significant amount of single-player oriented content, seeing as that's already been happening in the industry for a while.

Sometimes I want to play with items just to mix things up, but nobody else ever wants them on. I honestly don't know what the items in SSB Brawl are because I play at my friend's house and the other 3 guys say no items.

I get why people don't want items competitively, but I really do think they make the game more fun. There are definitely a lot of obnoxious items that I don't like, but I usually leave at least some on. Also I generally hate stages that have too much shit going on (sadly there seemed to be way too many of these in Brawl), but I also want to play something more interesting than FD or Battlefield. The great thing now is you can choose all those options to fit your style and I hope that doesn't change

Even if some things don't directly affect my day to day life, I stress constantly over how fucking dumb everyone is, and I didn't do that before Trump got elected. It even magnifies other forms of stupidity for me that aren't necessarily political. On a pretty much daily basis on Facebook I see people who believe in pseudoscience and conspiracy theories based on little more than one-to-two sentence image macros. I'm so sick of all of it

I'm such a devil's advocate that I see people on both sides taking these hard stances but there's so many flaws they don't consider that I have to restrain myself from typing anything because I know at the end of the day nobody is going to change their mind.

I don't necessarily try to ignore flaws on "my" side, but it's a tiring exercise when those flaws are often just a bunch of minutiae that get exaggerated into a bunch of false equivalencies. I rarely see people on the right provide actual good arguments for their stances anymore, they just go "BUT OBAMA" or point out some other vague perceived hypocrisy and then don't bother to actually address what they were challenged on. I guess the left probably does that a bit too, but what's the point in arguing in good faith when people are in denial and think any ugly truth is fake news

Not exactly equivalent, but I was big into the Yugioh scene for many, many years, and while it was always an expensive hobby to be competitive in, it seemed like each new pack catered to the small "professional" gaming community. I'd go to a Regionals and face the same decks over and over again. The one time I qualified for Nationals, I went 6-4 (just missed making it to the day 2 finals) and faced a total of two different decks. Unless you really enjoy the game you're playing (which I did until I couldn't keep up with the costs), the professional scene can be a real drag.

They couldn't handle my Crush Card Virus, though. I used it in the tourney, sold it for $200 before I left Pittsburgh, and Konami banned it on the next banned list. bachewy would have been proud of my hustle.

That's like in Overwatch, where once you reach a certain skill point, if you don't pick one of the 6 out of 25 champs that are the best, you're reported for trolling. And both teams have the exact 6 champs so it's a boring mirror match.

One time I went to a student Smash 64 tournament in college because am pretty good at it and it was probably free. Pretty much every match that I watched was just all Kirby and Fox and that was boring. I made the mistake of being Yoshi cause I thought it wasn't going to be that hardcore and I can still kick ass with Yoshi casually

I was pretty good with every character in that game. I liked playing most of the characters in Melee but some were just stupid, like Pichu. Brawl and 4 have way too many to learn, so I pretty much just stuck to using characters from the first two games.

When the Cards had 10 games to go I said they'd be lucky to win 6 more and that probably wouldn't be enough. They've lost 3 of 4 since then but now I think 6 may be enough if they can somehow manage to win 5 more times which they won't do.
