POKEMON INFO (What everyone really cares about)
SPAWN
There will be an increased spawn of all Kanto and Johto starter pokemon, as well as Pikachu, Larvitar, and Lapras, along the event route the event route. (Confirmed: source)
Region-specific pokemon will not appear at this event. (Confirmed: source) (Note: Tauros will likely still appear as normal, uncommon background spawn.)
It is reasonable to assume that Unown also will not appear at this event as there has been no specific mention of them.
Speculation: The special spawn is described as appearing on "the day of the event" (source), which may mean it will begin late in the evening of Saturday, September 16th.

GYMS & POKESTOPS
Temporary gyms and pokestops will appear "across the Viva CalleSJ route", which will be "centralized in Japantown, St. James Park, Mexican Heritage Plaza, and Lake Cunningham Park." (Confirmed: source) UPDATE: Event gyms are now live! (Credit to /u/hibryd)
Temporary pokestops are live! About five are clustered around each of the following four locations: Japantown, St. James Park, Mexican Heritage Plaza, and Lake Cunningham Park. (Confirmed: source)
Temporary gyms are live! There are three in St. James Park and three in Lake Cunningham Park. (Confirmed: source)
Many (but not all) pokestops along the route will be lured. (Confirmed: source)
Note: The 25 gyms and 130+ pokestops mentioned here already exist and are not specific to this event. It is not known exactly how many temporary gyms and pokestops will appear, but we do know that they will be in addition to the existing gyms and pokestops. (For reference: Ingress intel map of San Jose)
There will be two "Sprint Gym Battles" in San Jose from 12pm-5pm PDT on September 17th, near-ish to the event route. One is located at 2710 McKee Road, and the other is at 2080 Tully Road. (Confirmed: source) (Credit to /u/justchen563 and /u/natureruler)
A total of ten $50 Amazon gift cards will be given away, five cards at each of the two Sprint Gym Battles. From the official rules: At the conclusion of the Gym Battle, five winners will be randomly selected from all registered participants who are members of the team that owns the gym at the end of the event window. I was really hoping there might be regional pokemon making an appearance, but it still seems like it will be a fun event with a reasonable potential to load up on some of the more rare pokemon's candies.

Are any other b8ers going to be there? I'm about to hit the road and should be getting there around 9 or 9:30 AM PST.

They seem to be learning from their mistakes.

In the case of this event they are simply piggybacking off an existing event and sponsoring that with extra PoGo content.

They do Viva Calle San Jose every year where they shut down some stretches of road so people can walk/run/bike/scoot/board from 10-3. But this year they simply peppered in the Pokemon Go stuff. So all they really had to do was add some extra stops and gyms to the route and increase the rare spawns in the area.

Ive caught a few lapras so far as well as a few larvitar. And so so many starters from both gens. Its been pretty great. And ive had plenty of incubators going so its been a very productive egg day.
