It's funny because in pre-cancellation Family Guy, there's an episode where Brian falls in love with an 80/90 year old woman and Lois encourages that relationship.

Yeah, somewhere around Season 6 or 7 the characters just completely changed. Peter became an idiot manchild instead of an average dopey dad, Lois became a complete bitch instead of a loving mom with a dark past, Chris became a small version of Peter instead of an artsitic but awkward teen, Meg went from being a whiny teenager to being a suicidal punching bag, Brian went from level headed center of the family to a preachy liberal hypocrite, and Stewie went from a menacing, highly intelligent baby to a constant stream of gay double entendres. The show used to be a parody of family based sitcoms, but it turned into a parody of itself. The show used to make fun of the racist and sexist things Peter said by showing him to be an idiot, then it just started playing all those stereotypes straight.

^Sounds like what happened to Spongebob post season 5/The first movie.

Too many animated shows overstay their welcome.

From what I heard, Seth MacFarlane actually planned to end the show long ago, but Fox wanted none of that because of the DVD sales.

You say this like he has a single shred of artistic integrity.

On one hand, the guy was very talented at what he does. His work on Johnny Bravo and his early comedic shorts were great. Even the early seasons of Family Guy were great. On the other hand, people are way to quick to give him a break since he has reduced influence on Family Guy, but seriously, the guy voices half the cast and is the executive producer. It's not like his staff is sneaking episodes past him. Then, on the other hand, him keeping quiet has allowed him to keep American Dad on the show (which is still decent) and his movie ventures, so I get why he keeps his mouth shut. IIRC, he mentioned he was ready for it to end and he wishes fans would say the same.

He might be ready for it to end just because he voices half the characters. I imagine it eats up a lotta time. Alex Borstein and Seth Green might get a break if their characters aren't in an episode much, but how many episodes don't have a storyline with Peter, Brian, or Stewie?
