If you're looking for a job, indeed is pretty damn helpful, If you are looking for employees, I can't really say.

Monster is meh, imo....but I'm sure others have a better bit of insight on it than I would.

I second Indeed.com just because of a feature to send out a resume and apply for a job with a single click. Not every job obviously but enough that one could reasonably send out 40 applications a day in 15-20 minutes easily. One of the most annoying things about applying online for jobs for me has always been endlessly entering in basic information time after time after time.

Used to use monster.

I still get a call every year or two from people who say they saw my resume there, and I always tell them I need to update my profile but I never do.

Linked in if you just want to dump your profile/CV/resume and get calls.
Indeed if you're actively searching for jobs.
Also avoid recruiting companies. They're sales.

OMG! This! My resume always has all the shit they ask for on their application, unless I have to take a test or something.

This is not always the case. In my area many of the defense contractor companies use IT recruiting firms to fill IT positions and the positions are contract to hire.

I've never gotten a job through Indeed or the like, only a sea of staffing/recruitment company calls. I've gotten one through Craigslist and the rest directly applying on the company website. IT field for the curious.

I was talking mostly about the generic recruiting companies on Indeed

As an employer, I use Indeed when I have job postings and am looking to hire.

A word of advice if you're using Indeed, take some time to make your application/resume stand out. Even if you personalize a cover letter for the job you are applying for. When I open a job on Indeed, I get hundreds of applications in a few days. And like 90% of the people applying don't even qualify for the job in the slightest. They just apply to everything in their area and just hope someone will call them.

As an employer, that's annoying, and I'm more likely to skip an actually good candidate as I'm skimming through the crap. I tend to pay more attention when there's a cover letter with some actual thought put into it showing that they actually bothered to research my company.

More than once, I applied for a job with a cover letter that said "I think I am a good fit for this position at *wrong company name*".

After the 300th or so application, you start making copy/paste errors.
