kinda feel like playing one since I haven't done so since B/W 1.

not really interested in B/W 2 or X/Y but if they're actually the best I might be convinced otherwise...

that leaves HG/SS (might be hard to get and kinda looks like a D/P mod anyway lol), OR/AS (i really liked the original gen 3 so might be cool) and S/M (these are meant to be really good and they look cool too tbf).

also could wait til US/UM but they're not out for ages by my count.

would like some decent post-game stuff but otherwise easy going

ORAS sounds like what you're looking for. Better than X/Y and S/M by far, and it has a very fleshed-out post-game story. only downside is that is has no Gen VII pokemon and the characters are all chibis.

Sun/Moon is probably my favorite since G/S/C or FR/LG.

Sun/Moon by far because of the more story-driven parts of those games.

Sun/Moon is likely the most populated, since it's the newest. It's also the easiest to breed competitive Pokemon in; by far imo.

yeah guess that makes sense. forgot that ORAS and SM are actually different generations entirely.

Nobody should be playing Pokemon for the story tbh.

There's a few other, smaller "quality of life" improvements that make S/M a lot better:

-No need for HM slaves; field moves are replaced by "ride pokemon."

-Separate Pokedexes for each island. Makes it much easier to keep track of what you're missing.

-S.O.S. chaining makes it much easier to get perfect IV breeders and hidden abilities. Also makes shiny hunting easier, but that's a negative imo.

-Berries can be planted passively. Also, Super Training is out, but EV training items are available mid-game.

-Flag markers on the bottom screen to remind you where to go next.

If you really liked gen 3 then you'll really like ORAS

Dexnav is incredible, a lot more Pokemon to be found (I found original RS to be way lacking in selection), and tons of QoL improvements.

S/M is pretty different, so you'll probably see a lot of split opinions on it.
