Rio is still a wreck, and I believe Greece is still feeling the economic effects from when they hosted in 2004. There are only two bidders in the running for the 2024 games: LA and Paris (Boston dropped out), and it seems that many other countries are increasingly reluctant to place bids nowadays. It's especially odd that the IOC tends to be given a gold-star treatment when they scout countries for Olympic locations.
