why not just watch videos of Japanese play since the game's been out there for a while?

You could, but this is Atlus hype for the NA release. It's worth watching in English to hear the new VAs and be able to read the attack names.

Chie's new voice isn't bad, but I need to hear some story dialogue to get a good feel for it. I still like Chie's old voice much more so far on what little I've heard of new Chie. Also the cool alt costumes will unfortunately and to no surprise be paid DLC so I'll have to pay if I want my awesome Metis alt costume for Aigis.

On the plus side though every single character is unlocked from the start so you can do Vs and Online with every character. Story mode is different since you need to unlock the characters there to do their story parts.
