imo the best rivalry in this contest is Phoenix/Edgeworth, who are not enemies for far longer than they are enemies, but are still rivals.

If that were true, Big Boss would've drawn satisfaction from defeating Boss and being "the best." He didn't, because he didn't care about that (neither of them did). They were a mentor/pupil combo forced to separate and then fight each other based purely on circumstance and the Boss's fanatical loyalty and willingness to take stupid nonsense ****ing orders. And in any case, Big Boss strives throughout MGS3 to get good enough to be able to beat The Boss while Boss struggles to repel him. MGS3 is in a lot of ways about whether BB will be able to beat her. As the protagonist in the rivalry it's a great story and it works perfectly.

OK, if you're that worried about that one sentence, let me change what EXACTLY I said.

I don't remember either Boss or Big Boss paying any mind to whether or not they were considered "the best," or better than each other, as someone suggested.

Big Boss was sent to kill bad guys. By bizarre circumstance and weirdass MGS-flavored double agency, Boss happened to be one of those bad guys, even though she really wasn't, and even though neither she nor Big Boss had any personal desire to fight each other at all.

Again, to me that doesn't sound like a rivalry.

You won't get a non-Naked Snake pic because his interaction with The Boss was MGS3-only. Therefore this is just Solid Snake vs Samus. It's true that Naked Snake is portrayed as very very similar to Solid Snake of course, but it's a bit much to say it's literally the same thing. Solid Snake is in the noble 9, not his daddy or bro or any other Snakes. Though voting MGS is always the right move.

Well, yes she wanted to carry out her mission, but emotionally she didn't want to fight him, and well the way she ends it isn't really how a fight goes, and Big Boss disagrees with her move there as we find out years later.

Emotionally complex and whatnot but sure it's a rivalry.

This post is a little confusing. Now, Solid Snake/Revolver Ocelot, that's a very cool rivalry that got a lot of nominations.

Big Boss / Ocelot, well that's a rivalry primarily seen in MGS3, a great game, but yeah that kinda contradicts what you're saying. But yes with the lore of the series etc etc you could go for Big Boss / Zero, but really its more so Solid Snake who has the rivalry with Ocelot than Big Boss does.
