For me it's a solid 20. If there is 20 post going on in a topic, there is something interesting going on in there.

If the topic title doesn't attract me, I will usually avoid that topic unless it's mentioned somewhere else as being interesting.

Yeah there are some I completely ignore, but if it's something I'm neutral to then I'll go in with over 100. Like, I have no interest in LoL for example so I won't bother with the discussion topic there, but I was eventually coaxed into going into the "any thoughts on the occupy wall street movement?" topic because it kept popping up on page 1 and had like 100+ posts

has to look interesting, either by title or a user I expect good things from. post count doesn't matter and I never go into an uninteresting-looking topic even if it has a lot of posts

I pretty much on every single topic that isn't a project. Projects I will always check out if the topic is interesting to me. I never really pay attention to the post count.
