The thing that makes it funny is that he does this with damn near everything.
If the subject of Marvel movies pop up in conversation, he'll go on about no longer caring for them because they "have nothing for him" anymore and he's been saying this since, say, 2016. He has seen all of them to date...

He had this huge hate campaign against Cyberpunk and how he would never play that game (justifiable because the game had an awful release). That didn't stop him from still buying it day one and putting all nighters into game. For a while he would quickly turn it off if he heard me coming into the room.

I'm not sure why he does this lmao

Does he have no alternatives? He sounds like he's saying he should quit but keeps compulsively running back. Bad signs probably.

Nah, he has been vocal about his dislike for Souls games for years and how he's done with open-world games in general became they're a waste of time. So when he saw everything leading up to Elden Ring's release, he was like, "It's just open-world Dark Souls. Yep, I'm never playing this shit."

I would hear him very clearly playing the game. He actually opens his door halfway to make sure I don't see the television when I'm trying to talk to him about something lmao

All the noise he's making in his room as we speak sounds like he's very much interested.
Plus, he's staysup until 1am in the morning playing videogames.
I've known the guy long enough to know that he only pull ridiculous sessions like that when he's playing big open-world/RPG type games.

I know what you're referring to and that's honestly a perfect description of him lol. Again, I have know clue why he's like this but he does this with a lot of stiff. It's something that our entire friend group poke fun of.

It's not just games that he does this with. It seems like this is just how he goes about indulging in any guilty pleasures he have.

He does this with shit like anime too. He's one of the biggest anime fans I know -- going on shady websites to watch new shows in sub and read mangas online religiously (that level of anime fan) -- but he'll constantly downplay how much he actually likes it and, again, gets really upset if I walk in on him watching it.

Like, dude, it's okay to openly like things.

Tell him it's ok to like From Soft games. He doesn't have to hide just because people assume others only play Soulsborne games cause they're tryhards. Do suck up to those guys.

I watched him play Sekiro once and that shit was hilarious. I'm surprised he put up with the game as long as he did considering his dislike for FromSoft games.
There was a boss in particular that he had to fight or something. According to him, he needed some very specific items to beat the boss that he grinded for hours to get. He went up against the boss, used the items wrong, thus wasting it, then died. So, he turned the game off hoping it saved the items.

When he realized that it didn't, he had a complete meltdown and deleted/uninstalled the game right then and there. I love watching him play games because he loses his shit like that all the time. Don't even get me started on him playing Overwatch...

He legit did something similar to that the other day. He was wearing his underwear and got super mad that I walked in on him playing Cyberpunk before turning it off -- a game that he regularly talks mad shit about but has made, like, 20 different characters and has put in at least 60+ hours on each of them.
