Nah. As someone with zero interest in Death Stranding, I'd rather take that. Even though it's trippy, makes-no-sense Kojima bullshit from what I've seen, at least every character isn't a boring robot with the personality of your average ironing board like in every Shenmue game ever.

I just finished it last night. Took my time, clocking in at 83 hours. You guys might be missing out. I was on the fence in the beginning. I mocked the gameplay footage release when discussing it with friends. However, you could very well hate it, since it's definitely not a style that would gel with everyone

I'm gonna defend Shenmue on this (haven't played 3 so no comment)

But I never played it on Dreamcast and played it for the first time on the PS4 HD collection at around the same time I tried Persona 5, Nier 2 and Okami.

Nier 2, Persona 5 and Okami bored me so much I had to stop playing.

I played Shenmue 1 and 2 back to back and completed them both.

IT has huge flaws but amazingly immersive

I tried to play Shenmue recently on Xbox One and couldn't get past the awful controls and camera. It's an important game, and laid an amazing foundation to be built upon, but the game does not hold up at all. I played it briefly as a kid on Dreamcast but didnt sink much time into it, moreso watched my dad play it, so I don't have much nostalgia attached to it. It's kinda shitty in 2019 imho

Nah. Plenty of slower paced games I can play and enjoy. Shenmue is just garbage because it tells an uninteresting story about uninteresting characters that's moved along with a unique-ish yet, very flawed gameplay loop including shitty nu-Virtua Fighter combat sequences.

Though I was satisfied with Nier Automata for the most part, it's grossly overrated on CE (Some people calling it one of the greatest games of all time. Calm down now...). I've never seen Better Call Saul. None of those take away from Shenmue's lack of interest as far as the bad/boring writing goes. It's not even that it's intentionally "bizarre" as much as it is that they couldn't find a genuine tone and feeling.
Someone compared it unfavorably to Yakuza earlier. While I don't give any ounce of shit about the Yakuza games, just looking at a random clip oozes more charm than the 3 Shenmue games put together. Shenmue seems like it doesn't know what it is, while Yakuza knows exactly what it is.
