But isn't it actually more of a remake? I know it have a sequel feel to it in that all of the characters are older, but none of the characters don't seem even remember one another and the story from the first game doesn't carry over.
In fact, the game is mostly a re-imagining of the original game but with more characters and some changes to the story here and there.

Yeah re-imaging is the proper term.

Remake would be the same game but with updated graphics or addition content.

Wouldn't a remake basically just be telling the same story but adding your own flare to it? Like, for example, Fright Night.
The 2011 film take a lot of liberties with some of the characters and major plot points from the 1985 film, but at the end of the day, it's still telling the same story.

Didn't I basically say that?

Actually JSRF is the official story. The original JSR is a just a what-if (and even that is questionable based on the ending). This is all based on what the developers have stated

No. It doesn't help that I decided to use a movie example when we're talking about video games.

I don't think that's true. In fact, the "what if" thing was something DJ Professor K hints at the end of the first game. There's no actual confirmation.
