Yeah. It looks dumb, the name is dumb, the purpose of the thing is dumb... It was just dumb.

But the dumbest thing is that even though they went out of their way trying to make it sound indistinguishable from the weapon that no fewer than FIVE main characters all specialize in, nobody seems to find this confusing or even acknowledge the wordplay. Ventus even acts like he's never heard the term before.

the complicated plot:

-Evil Wizard does Evil Wizard things

-Oh wait Modern Disney. "Morally Grey" Wizard does Evil Wizard Things (his motivations are never explained until the final cutscene after three whole games, three side games, and a mobile spinoff of him being literally just evil)

-Also there's like 13 of him because we didn't really plan this out ahead of time (the actual number of Evil Wizards varies between 2 and approximately 50 depending on the point in the timeline and how much you care about the events of the mobile game. They are all the same Evil Wizard because Magic)

-Maleficent thinks she is important to the story (she is not) (she is also somehow morally grey despite being Disney Satan)

Some writers do work well this way (i.e. Stephen King). Most writers do have an outline though.

Nomura should have stuck to costume design and stayed far away from any sort of writing.
