Obviously not wild, it's actually very expected. What's wild is that other cities aren't also streamlining permitting, upzoning the city, and eliminating parking mandates. There's a lot of NIMBYism that's getting in the way of building more housing. That sucks, because high housing costs are primarily a supply and demand issue and increasing supply is what works to bring prices down.
