Toyota makes the superior vehicle. Unless you really want an all electric in 2024 go with the Toyota.

Probably this.

Teslas are good cars overall from my experience but I'm not a fan of the minimalist interior. Everything is done through the touch screen

If that doesn't bother you then you're good to go

Yeah I'm pretty much riding this, although all cars have gotten more electronically sophisticated.

Knock on wood I haven't actually seen a 10th gen Civic (or 11th) start going haywire

If you dont absolutely need to have gas and theyre similar in price, the Model Y is objectively better at everything, even build quality. Ive driven both a lot.

Unless you live in certain places EVs just seem silly to me - or, sillier, considering they're already silly.

But, the Prius is almost surely a better bet in almost every way imaginable.

Range: Prius
  • The hybrid electric/gas setup is the absolute best for range right now. Tesla has really good battery tech, but I feel like there needs to be a new revolution in EV battery tech for the EVs to be great in this regard.
  • Also, if you get a Tesla (or any EV), make sure you have a solid plan for how you're going to charge. Be aware of where your nearest charging station is. Ideally, you'll be able to charge your car at home so you won't have to spend chunks of time at a charging station on a regular basis.

Tech suite: Tesla
  • This is where Teslas shine. Frequent software updates that add new features, mapping updates, etc.
  • The built-in cameras in Teslas are the best feature, imo. Constant recording while you're driving and sentry mode while you're away are great. This has saved me from being on the hook for thousands of dollars in repairs so far, and made the insurance claim process super easy every time. No question about who is at fault or whether something did or didn't happen. Just send in the video and watch the responsible party squirm.
  • Maybe Toyota has gotten better in this regard in recent years, but I used to only drive Toyota vehicles and they rarely had map updates at all.

Build quality: Prius
  • Tesla will fix most build quality issues under warranty, but they deservedly has a bad reputation in this regard.

You'll also need to decide on whether you like the minimalist interior that Teslas have. I'm also not a fan of the door handles that Tesla Model 3s and Ys have.

OEM navigation is generally looking to be phased out for most brands in favor of CarPlay/Auto

Depending on what your local environment is like, some trips are predominantly EV mode with a hybrid. For sure that's still a far cry from total EV/no gas used, but like, I can sometimes navigate between two nearby locations on just EV alone, and I don't even have a plug in (CR-V hybrid)

I've had Mazda and Honda's most recent navigation packages and they were forgettable.

Yeah, my previous car was a Camry hybrid and it was nice just being able to use the electric motor for a large portion of some trips. Austin has too many hills and stuff to only use the EV motor, I think.

I think Prius's are ugly as shit, but I'd never willingly buy a Tesla now. So my vote goes to the Prius.

The new design looks a lot better, but still drives familiarly slow and unresponsive.
