There are several games that do this.

Late in the game some bad guy does some shit, and then the sky is black or torn, enemies are everywhere, everything looks evil and depressing.

No more adventuring under blue skies, you're in the world of darkness now until the end of the game.

also elden ring (at least with the central hub) and bloodborne (I think it was tied into your intuition stat tho, like a high intuition level caused you to see the bug critters on walls)

The darkness is why people hate Tales of Zesteria. It fits the story but they do it too well. Darkness in other games did not bother me.

Doesn't every game do this? At the very least the last world/level is gonna be in a dungeon or something.

Ok fine, there's probably like Super Monkey Ball or whatever that doesn't do it because it has no story and it's supposed to be fun and cheerful but you know what I mean lol.

I guess what I more specifically meant is that you could go back to "world 1" or whatever, early game, and the sky and world is STILL dark. Like things - everywhere - changed.

Or just not play the game with atrocious shitty controls, that's an even better idea.

The controls and camera in that game are SO bad.

I loved that part in Grandia. The game starts off so happy go lucky with Justin just wanting to explore and have fun. Then Gaia starts spreading and everything gets crazy. That tone shift was unexpected to me and I loved it.
