Me too. I know it's just a dumb internet forum, but it's been a decent part of my life for a long time. I don't think it'll die for a while, but this is definitely the beginning of the end and that's just sad.

I asked this in the feedback topic, but I don't expect to get an answer: why not just ban politics outside of this board? Why ban them outside this board and privatize it?

Shit, I just woke up and saw this. Yeah, this is one of the final nails in the coffin for GameFAQs boards. It's not as if this site was thriving before this decision with dwindling visitors though.

Where does everyone go these days? Discord or something? I tried a while back but I just wasn't feeling it.

I wonder how much of this site's traffic is even from the guides. I know I haven't looked at one in like 10 years. It's easier to just go onto Youtube, specifically search for what I need help with and move on.

GameFAQs probably won't close in the near future, but it becoming a zombie Fandom site is very likely.

My guess is that all social boards will eventually be closed, probably around the time of the 2024 US election.

I don't see them closing video game boards soon but they might eventually just say screw it and close all boards and leave GameFAQs a carcass with the lowest maintenance possible in hopes of getting ad revenue for people using the site for old game guides (since no one will be making new guides since they completely killed the community)

I wonder how it compared to the IMDB message board shut down. I remember that being surprising at the time. But I'm also not familiar with how things were going on the lead up to it.

Difference is I'm sure plenty of people still used that site outside of message boards. Can't imagine GameFAQs is a big resource for anything recent these days.

Zooper has been around since 2002. It's only been within in the last several years or so that Zooper has admin duties (contributions primarily).

Once you make a board private, it will eventually die. It happened to LUE. That place was even more active than CE, when CE was at its peak.

Yeah people ovelook just how ppular traditional forums were back in the mid-2000s. The only competition was blogging sites and very early social media like MySpace. LUE had the same activity you'd see on big subreddits nowadays. Yet the lock still hobbled it over time.

Modern CE definitely had no more than few hundred frequent users to begin with and now the count's just gonna drop, between boycotts/migrations, purgs, and natural loss of interest (the site has an aging userbase in general).
