My elementary school banned them after some kid at another school got stabbed over them.

I remember one time my mom had brought my cards when she came to pick me up so I could trade with one of my friends who lived across the street from the school. So we're sitting on his front porch going through our cards when the school librarian came storming across the street and tried to confiscate our cards. Our moms both came out of the house to see what was going on and boy did that librarian get an earful. I don't think I'd ever seen my mom or his mom so angry before.

They never cared about kids bringing their Gameboys though as long as you didn't have it out during class obviously.

Pokmon cards never got banned IIRC, but Yugioh cards did

I remember my school nurse giving me an Ivysaur card when I slammed my finger in a door. Maybe that's why I'm fond of Ivysaur in Smash.

I dunno I think it makes sense. I was in early elementary school and there was like a fight every day in the schoolyard over pokemon cards. actual stealing, accusations of stealing when it didn't actually happen, damaging/tearing up cards, and even dumb stuff like kids getting into a fight about not wanting to trade cards with someone else

I guess at some point the teachers just got fed up

Electronics were banned. My primary (elementary) school banned trading, but you could bring the cards and play against other kids. My high school banned MTG on paper, but in practice they stopped enforcing it after like a week.
