I have seen them mock customers, make fun of them, be dismissive of their issues, and much more

youd think that kind of treatment would get an airline customer service agent fired. what gives?

Unless you mean somebody from the airline is instant messaging you while you're trying to order tickets two weeks before you actually get to the airport.

I'd assume you can just buy same day tickets. Since there are tickets available if you missed your flight or you need to change it.

Never seen that from my end and I fly all the time. If you said spirit airlines I'd believe it. They are awful.

Idk, I have seen travelers be such annoying pricks to airline employees. Like, the person working ticketing has nothing to do with your flight being delayed or cancelled and there is no amount of Karen like behavior that will change the status of your flight.

I fly United a lot and havent had many issues with customer service. I missed a connection flying back home on Fathers Day even though I made it to the gate with the plane still there but after they had closed the doors and the people were pretty nice. Gave me a hotel room so I could nap and shower before getting a flight 8 hours later. I have seen people melt down in that situation and it just doesnt do any good.

I dont understand why people in airports think they are so entitled.

Well, there's an element of truth in this, at the part where you say it's not the guy at the desk's fault.

But I absolutely understand why people in airports think they are so entitled. Because they bought a plane ticket and the airline screwed it up.

It's not a "shit happens" thing; it's a "we go out of our way to make sure shit happens" thing. As in, there are 100 seats in the plane, they booked 102 anticipating someone canceling.
