in 13 years only one time did anyone try to haggle and it was within my first few weeks.

Some people knowingly or unknowingly crave social interaction and maybe they just didn't know what to say

They're tryna form a connection and you're online shaming them

I worked for Best Buy for five years in a city that has a large Somali immigrant population. There are many cultures in which haggling is a normal and expected part of a sales transaction.

Yeah and I'd always tell them no. If there was something discounted on sale, it'd have a fucking signage or something advertising that. You don't get to just ask for a discount because your ass doesn't want to pay a particular price. Go somewhere else that has what you want cheaper.

I worked hotels for years. No shortage of people trying to get discounts or free rooms for any bs.

I've asked for discounts at hotels, but only when I pull in and the parking lot is mostly empty. No way you're charging me full price for a room that has close to zero demand

There was a store I worked at for a while and when people would try to haggle most of the time I'd tell them no once and that would be the end of it but every once in a while I'd get a person who would keep persisting and keep asking and I'd have to tell them no half a dozen times or more before they'd either stop or ask for the manager.

When I worked at a movie theater when I was younger, I had a customer who wanted to pay the price that "we pay" for a bag of popcorn ((i.e. the price for one bag of popcorn in a box of 500 or 1,000). It was ridiculous because it doesn't work like that so I played dumb and told him we pay whatever the price we were charging was and he kept swearing that I didn't understand what he was asking and I told him I understand exactly what he's asking and it's "price". He finally paid and got out of the way.
