I bought the Pixel 6 Pro because I fell for their Tensor chip and AI-powered photo-editing software "that only their Tensor chip can do". I then disliked all the small issues the Pixel 6 Pro had, and just switched back to iPhone 14 Pro when that came out just a year later.

Shortly after that, Google released the "amazing Tensor-only-capable AI-powered photo-editing" to Google One (storage subscription) users. And now, it's being released to all Google Photo users:
https://blog.google/products/photos/google-photos-editing-features-availability/

What a bullshit marketing gimmick that Tensor chip was.

the Tensor chip shit was definitely dumb, and I dunno why anyone would've taken it seriously. that said, Android has literally always been ahead of iOS on pretty much everything - and unless you're just a fully Apple-environment person, I literally do not understand why you'd go Apple.

I've worked at cellular providers, tech companies, and in corporate IT support for years each - and there's ZERO reason to ever go Apple, unless you're just a fully Apple person that doesn't use anything else - which means that you're also probably very wealthy and not tech savvy.

If you've worked for those type of companies, you should know corporate loves iPhones because it's cheap (SE series), reliable, and can easily be locked down vs. any other phone. Unless you mean personal phones...

People like Apple because of reliability. Everything Apple releases is guaranteed to work on every Apple device for up to a certain amount of years. I think it's 5? I don't know, offhand.

With Android, it literally depends on which phone you get. There is no guarantee, period. Samsung will last over years, but they load their shit with so much bloatware that it's insane. Cheaper options won't have bloatware, but they last a much smaller amount of time that they'll be supported.

Android's potential is much greater, but Apple is the "safer" option, and some people just gravitate toward "safe."

You can do the same things on Android phones, but yeah, Apple might be easier. Also, I would not be a fan of that type of control. I had an option at my current job of either getting a new phone through them or having them take over my existing phone - and I got a shitty iPhone through them lol, cuz I will not be using that for anything other than what business I absolutely have to.

My Pixel 7 Pro is infinitely better than whatever this iPhone piece of shit is. I've never like iOS, because I'm not a simpleton. I build my own computers and know how to figure shit out lol.

Also, I'm admittedly biased, as a mobile developer.

I love knowing my shit will just work, period, which is why I like iOS development more than Android. I don't have to fight with a million different screen sizes, or pixel density, or what have you, when developing for iOS. I just develop the shit, and it works. At most, I provide like, multiple sized screenshots, for the app store, for phone vs. tablet.

That said, I have a coworker who loves Android, because they can do shit however they want, instead of following more strict guidelines, like I have to. They're not guaranteed that their stuff will work, they have to go out of their way to support a ton of different things, but they can do it however they want, not having to follow any specific guidelines, and they prefer that approach.

To each their own.

Nope, the Samsung apps are often better than the Google counterparts and those Samsung apps are the closest thing Android has to the Apple ecosystem.

If you buy into the Samsung ecosystem and get their devices you will see that they all play nicely together. It's Apple-like without the stupid.

I've generally avoided Samsung, as someone who has been in the industry, exactly because this hasn't been true, from what I've seen. Samsung often has perfectly suitable hardware, but their software has been incredibly problematic over the years.

Samsung literally turns off things like push notifications for non-official apps, without telling you, in order to preserve their constantly running tracking apps, when your battery life gets below like, 75%. Samsung is horrible for bloatware. I'm not talking about how their apps actually run, I'm talking about the shit you don't even know is running.

What was the device you used and when was it? I'm typing this on a 2018 Tab S4 that I've used for everything from signing documents to remote VPN work. Your workflows may be different from mine but my devices have never let me down for what I need them to do.

All my computing devices and home appliances all sync pretty well together. Failures are few and far between and not enough to really matter. Your miles may very but I think Samsung as a company has come a long way from even 5-10 years ago.

Well if the apps run well and they don't get in the way of what I want the device to do then why should I care? If you don't like the Samsung apps then delete and/or disable them. Am I able to delete or disable all of Apple's first party apps on an iPhone? No one calls that bloatware but that's what it is.

I'm looking at the Samsung apps I use for my phone and every single one of them can be deleted or disabled on a whim. I don't follow you.

The thing that gets me nervous about Google is that they've learned that they can intentionally aim to obsolete things, such as requiring RCS be used entirely in replacement of SMS/MMS, and being backed up by things like court rulings in Europe, so now they're getting incredibly bold in the "What else can we seek a monopoly on?" territory.

Devices from the Galaxy S (S1, from 2010), well through the Galaxy Note 7 (2016), and beyond, though with less personal experience, as I was no longer in the industry - so it was all personal experience and what I kept up w/ online.

2018 would've been well past the majority of my experience, but I have heard, and expect, that not much has changed. In terms of personal usage during that time, I migrated from Motorola to LG, and then, finally to Google's Pixel series, once LG stopped making phones.

As I figured - you haven't reliably used anything from them in almost a decade so you being "in the industry" is meaningless if your frame of reference is from 10 years ago.

From somebody in the industry as we speak, it's literally the same. They absolutely stuff their devices with bloatware, most of which they don't make you aware is even there. I think this is literally the first time I've ever seen somebody defend Samsung, of all companies. Google Pixel? Sure, it's a good phone, not much bloatware, go wild. But Samsung?

it's not like companies regularly change their tune, in terms of production and software quality. if you were putting out shit 10 years ago, you're prob still putting out shit. this isn't 100%, but, it seems more likely than not given my experience.

i'm also not the target audience for a lot of devices, as i want more options, less bloat and spyware shit, which most people do not seem to give a shit about.

I use Pixels and Galaxy phones side by side. They both have lots of pros and cons. Samsung though has gotten super lazy in the last couple of years with their bloatware. They used to be better about it for a bit.

A lot of redundant things that don't actually work that great or used to. They're also constantly removing features and changing things around in their apps, which gets annoying fast.

The "2" is because they can't guarantee how much space will be taken up by the carrier. If you choose a carrier, which is an option when buying the phone, they can't control how much space said carrier takes up for whatever they add to the phone. Some carriers use certain versions/settings over others, by default.

As a comparison w/ my Pixel 7 Pro, it has 128GB built in, sadly not expandable storage, which the iPhone won't have either, and w/ Google One includes a VPN and 100GB of Cloud Storage, which I believe extends to your Gmail and shit, for $20 a year?

I do not believe that Apple provides anywhere near that w/o extra cost, especially not 1TB.
