Pai Meis Cantonese. Wtf is this? They can sub every other scene except for Cantonese? This is embarrassing for Netflix.

I had a similar problem with VHS 3. One of the stories is in Spanish, and there were no subtitles. This was years ago though

If you know Spanish (or heck at this point even French) you can put on those subtitles and they'll subtitle pai Mei interestingly enough.

But the hack I did was turn on English audio description for his part, wherein the audio describer actually does give a translation interpretation. Netflix/movies are so weird sometimes

All streaming services ive come across are lazy af when it comes to subtitles. Non-english language in english movies not being subbed, literally no option for english subs that isnt hearing impaired subtitles eg. Wind blows quietly/door creaks silently etc.

its quite telling that sailing the seas offer better subtitle options than official services

Yeah I remember watching it and thinking it purposely didn't have subtitles for that segment at first then was just confused. I think they've fixed it since

I accidentally watched an episode of The Boys with the audio description turned on without realizing it. I thought it was like a stylized episode or something, but I really enjoyed it, lol.

My favorite is when a Korean show with other languages, like Cantonese, doesn't have the other languages subbed

You didn't even mention the most trollish part of closed captions/hearing impaired subtitles, where instead of translating the Cantonese they just say [whispers in Cantonese] or [speaking spanish] and call it a day.

Tubi is really good about it.
Was watching a bunch of Tony Jaa movies on it and it had them.

It makes sense sometimes, if they are speaking a different language than usual. That kind of thing is normally not about the words being spoken, but how they are spoken.

Sometimes it's a stylistic choice like Steven Spielberg's west side story, where he didn't subtitle the Spanish parts in English only the English parts
