I'm a 3rd shift worker so it was a hassle to get up for that to begin with. I didn't know if it was safe to remove your glasses during totality so I just saw all black in the sky. Oh well it looked better in videos anyway.

It was great seeing the sky basically turning to dusk during the eclipse. Just before and just after the total eclipse the surroundings were definitely darker than normal as well

Apparently bugs react to the eclipse too but you have to be in a secluded area for that

Mine was great. Totality was like 4 and a half minutes.

I never follow them, but I found out late Sunday night that I was in the path of totality.
.

At 3:33 PM EST (horizon, facing south-west)...

At 3:35 PM EST (sky above)...

At 3:37 PM EST (horizon, facing west)...

.

So, I got [for free] what other people had to travel hours and spend hundreds or thousands to experience. :P

There's an absolute world of difference between a partial and total eclipse.

Seeing it in totality is very cool.

Those look amazing!
It was interesting. The sky was clear and snow reflected ambient light; the ground didn't go completely dark.

I took the shots from my back deck, wearing a welder's helmet and wielding an SLR camera on the end of a tripod.

[ This was probably the most irl LOTR "Eye of Sauron" moment I've had in my life. lol ]
.

As the moon's shadow crossed, the light dimmed, the air temperature dropped, and wind started rushing in. I wanted to get a more panoramic series of shots of the horizon, but the light level dropped too fast. When I tilted back to focus on the dead-center for shots of the corona, the camera sensor kept catching the edge and flaring.

Keeping focus: When the sensor caught the corona, the moon shrank to a pinhole before everything went white.
.

The gusting wind also made the camera shake, making keeping the shots steady a lot more difficult.

Parting shot: I tried to get a clear shot of the sun emerging, but the wind was "having none of that."

During totality is the only safe time to look at an eclipse.
