Think about your average 16 year old. Think of the ones you know. Think of how derpy, naive, and inexperienced they are

Now think about them in a car. A massive 1000+ pound machine made of metal. On wheels. And it goes. It goes fast

They're out there. Amongst us. Driving on the roads.

the adults ain't much better at it

On a learner's permit, it's as low as 14 in some states.

our driving age is a relic of the past. our social mentality for what constitutes an adult has changed, we used to expect people to be married with a house and kid by 20 but now people are staying with their parents much longer. but yeah, the licensing age has stayed at 16, the military enrollment age 18, hell even the drinking age is still 21 even though we've learned that the brain is still developing at that age

I got my permit at 15 as did pretty much everyone at my school. I lived in a town and not a metropolitan city though. My father who was a strict tiger parent was actually getting me to practice driving in vacant parking lots since I was 13.

21 is a good better age to allow drinking than 18. Extreme extremely rare American winning. im just thinking this cos of my personal situation though I mean I had a drink of it without any drunkenness cos I have paranoia and what if I say something out of character!? I dont drink now

In the era of cellphones most of the people I see around me whether on the highway or whether in town at a light are all staring in their laps and texting. From young to old and everywhere in between. They all have their head up their ass staring at their phones.

It honestly baffles me how that hadnt been outlawed in all 50 states.

It's one of many things about the US I never fully understood.

How the age you can drive, purchase cigarettes (even after the "Tobacco 21 Law, some states are still 18 or 19), and "have sex" all vary by state. Same with Alcohol up till about 35 years ago.

Like, one state thinks you're an adult, but another one doesn't. It's just wild to me.

It isn't? It's illegal in every state I've lived in.
I just looked it up and 34 states outlaw it, which is more than the amount of blue states there are, so that's better than I expected.

To amend my statement Im surprised it isnt enforced more. Technically its illegal in my state but I see cops doing it and I have never seen them enforce it on anyone even though I can see it all around me yet they drive right by.

Technically its illegal for anyone under 18 to even be on their cellphone at all but again I dont think its actually enforced. And at a glance how the hell can you determine if someone is 17 or 18? Hell I work at a college and most of them barely even look old enough to drive to me.

Ultimately I think texting and driving is a pretty big issue and its not just an issue with young drivers. It definitely covers all ages. I see just as many people my age guilty of it as anyone else.

Not sure what you're talking about here, I was just bring cheeky.

But yeah, I'm more concerned about older people driving. Student drivers, while inexperienced, tend to have the rules fresh in their mind.

Meanwhile it was always an driver older than me when I'm nearly run over in the parking lot.

(Well, rarely you have some douchebag going 40 in their sportscar)
