A friend who jumps rope told me that the more a person does high jumps and swings the rope to the side, the less talented they actually are, since while it looks impressive, you're effectively jumping over the rope less and therefore less likely to mess up. Apparently the less flashy it looks, the more skill it takes. The "stepping" and smaller jumps apparently take much more skill.

I was basically told higher jumps look more impressive, but the reality is... When you jump high, you can get the rope to cross you multiple times before you land, so it looks good, but you don't have to time it nearly as well as the smaller jumps/steps. --- Seplito Nash, Smelling Like the Vault since 1996 Step FOUR! Oh, absolutely. I'm not denying it's fun as hell to watch, and is a LOT more talent than somebody like me would ever have, for example. I just was relaying what I was told by a friend who actually jumps rope, since somebody brought up Lauren Jumps, who is technically more talented.
