I understand the extreme basics of the mmd program but it just seems extremely time consuming and slow to individually move the limbs of characters I dont see how it could be nearly as enjoyable compared to 2d animation which has you able to completely change the look of a character by drawing their expression or artstyle or pose. I can not do either but the theory of 3d animation seems way more dull due to the limitations of a 3d environment. I respect 3d animatiors very much i just think if you can draw, the limitless possibilities you can create with 2d art seems more appealing on average I just thought of this while bored am I accurate?

I think there are a lot more tools available now, such as using motion tracking to get the base animation and then fine tuning

I've never done anything other than SFM years ago though so from what little I know its a pain in the fucking ass lol

Oh I forgot about that but Im sure a decent amount of yt 3d animators dont have access to that and they do it manually and its crazy to me how committed that is to what they envision

I was looking up actually using a couple xbox kinects for movement capture back in 2014 I think and you'd be surprised just how well that can capture stuff

I can be very tedious as you are often held hostage by programs and tools you're using. It's also a bit of a hill climb as it requires a lot of setup prior to animation. There's so much prep work that goes into 3d that there a whole spectrum specialists just for these tasks. You can traditionally 2d animate with very few tools and start doing cool things right away; really just depends on your skill level. Of course, once you're over the hump and those tasks have been completed you can really get going.

Fortunately, the last decade has brought a lot of tools forth to help 3d animating.
